I am a photographer, musician, and writer in Houston, Texas. A classically trained flutist, I attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where I studied with master flute teacher Robert Cavally. I later graduated from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) with a degree in music. I have performed with Texas Jazz Central (a big band), with Fling (a flute-bass jazz duo), and with the World Music Ensemble (a chamber-music quintet) in Houston. Click here to hear me playing “All the Things You Are” with Texas Jazz Central.
I studied photography with Raul Touzon and David Alan Harvey under the auspices of Santa Fe Workshops and National Geographic. I am a long-term mentoree of Arthur Meyerson, of Santa Fe Workshops, for whose kindness and expert guidance I am most grateful. The photos shown here were taken with various Canon EOS series cameras. For a list of my images that have been presented in group shows, please see Exhibitions.
Until retiring in 2016, I worked as a medical writer/editor at the Texas Heart Institute, in the Texas Medical Center. Much of my work involved editing materials related to heart transplants and mechanical cardiac assist devices. I am privileged to have worked for some of the foremost pioneers in this field. In 2011, I had the pleasure of helping Dr. Denton A. Cooley, the renowned heart surgeon, prepare his memoir, 100,000 Hearts.
Thanks to Davis Cohen Art, of Houston, Texas, my sticky-note images are being installed at major medical institutions in the Houston area. For more information about me, see Arthur Meyerson Interviews Catherine Fairchild and the May 2019 “Member Spotlight” published by the Texas Photographic Society.
